Joffrey

I seem to be having trouble getting started on this blog, I have lots of stories written it is just that every time I go to post them I spot some alteration I want to make. I know that you have to just run with these things sometimes, but at the moment it just doesn't feel right. So instead I decided to bring something completely new to the blog and post it raw, something that has been washing around my brain with nowhere to go. It maybe a little rough around the edges, and it doesn't really have the type of beginning middle and end I would like it to have, but never-the-less I'll give it a go. May I introduce Joffrey........

Joffrey is a spider, he lives in the hall at my house, close to the front door. He doesn't build a web, or at least if he does he keeps it very secret and very hidden. Joffery is a big spider, not as big as your house, or as big as your car, or even as big as your dog, but maybe as big as your hand, and by spider standards that is pretty big. Joffery can't talk, but he does make this noise. It is kind of like a cross between a hiss and a growl. It isn't a bad noise, but it isn't a nice one either. My brother says he knows what Joffrey is saying, but I'm not sure.

Joffrey doesn't frighten me, well only when he sneaks up on me. I do have to tell him off a lot though. He is supposed to stay in the hall, Mum says spiders don't belong indoors and she'll only make the exception if Joffrey stays down the far end on the hall. He won't listen to Mum though, he won't listen to me, he won't even listen to my brother, and everyone listens to my brother!

At least once a week Joffrey makes a break for it. You can hear him from the kitchen, you don't notice it at first though, it is a sound quite sound like thumph, thumph, thumph, thumph. It gets faster and just a little louder, and just a little faster. Then suddenly you realise it is Joffrey making a break for it across the hall carpet heading for the stairs. I don't know why he is so desperate to get up there, what he thinks he will find, but he still tries again and again.

When I hear that thumph, thumph, thumph I rush straight to the hall, and as soon as he sees me Joffrey stops, still as a statue, and you know that if he could talk he would be saying "What? I wasn't doing anything". Instead he just makes that funny hissing growl of his and sits on the carpet pretending you aren't there.

So I go and get a glass, (Joffrey isn't frightening, but I am still not picking him up in my bare hands!), scoop him into it, and take him back to where he belongs before Mum finds out what he has done. Every time I tell him "Joffrey you must stay up here if Mum catches you trying to get upstairs she'll throw you outside!", then I sigh, wishing he could understand me and go back to whatever I was doing. I wonder if Joffrey will ever listen, or if Mum really will  throw him out?
